Greenbushes Primary School

Greenbushes Primary School is a small rural school located in the community of Greenbushes just off the South West Highway 250 km from Perth. The town is located within the Bridgetown-Greenbushes Shire town. The nearest regional centres are Bunbury which is 80 km north and Manjimup 50 km south.

The school and town are surrounded by native forest and farmland. The major industries that support the town are Tantalite and Lithium mining and Timber milling. Many local families are employed in these industries.

Greenbushes has students enrolled from K to 6. Multi age groupings make up the classes. These change from year to year according to cohort size. The staff are innovative, highly experienced and are strongly committed to our school community. We have a strong focus on pastoral care and student well being. Students are encouraged to develop academically, socially, emotionally and physically in a caring supportive community environment.

History

In 1893 a two-acre site was allocated for the first school to be established at Greenbushes. The school was open for three months of the year and was attended by seven boys and ten girls. In 1899 a school was built on the present site, located opposite the Miners' Institute Hall and Courthouse.  In 1900, attendance stood at 102. In that same year, two more rooms were added, able to accommodate up to 125 pupils.

On February 14th, 1965  the main school building was destroyed by fire. It was rebuilt and the new school building was occupied for the first time on 1st Nov 1965.

In 1993 the school celebrated its centenary with a "BACK TO GREENBUSHES" day. Old pupils attended a school reunion and other activities.
